Sonia Ebling (Taquara RS 1918 - Rio de Janeiro RJ 2006)
Sonia Ebling was a sculptor, painter and teacher. He began his training by attending painting and sculpture courses at the School of Fine Arts in Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro, between 1944 and 1951. In 1955, he received the award for travel abroad at the National Salon of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Between 1956 and 1959, he traveled to several European countries, studying with Zadkine, in Paris, France. He lived in this city between 1959 and 1968, during which time he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Back to Brazil, he carried out an emphasis on the Palácio dos Arcos, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Brasília. In 1970, he taught a technical extension course, with direct application in cement, at the School of Fine Arts at UFRGS. Six years later, she was invited to teach sculpture at that same university.
Criticism
"With the series Os Casais, mainly couple on her lap (1978 - bronze, 0.18 m), Love (1977 - Bronze, 0.46 m) and nuptial (1979 - bronze, 0.45 m), it reaches one of its culminating points. It forbids the detachment in the anecdotal and in the folkloric, but it always pushes it more towards purification. Again, the instinct conjures it to the adherence to all in vitro essentialism. kind of obsession, which keeps it in the meshes of the senses moved by the direct shock of the world and men".
