Benedito José de Andrade (1906 - 1979)
Benedito José de Andrade was a painter and musician. He spent his childhood in Cabreúva, in the interior of São Paulo, where he got involved with Afro-Brazilian traditions, which influenced his artistic theme, centered on the representation of the black population. He moved to São Paulo in the 1930s, where he began his artistic career, developing a unique technique to portray black figures with sensitivity and depth.
He acted mainly as a painter in the 1930s and 1940s, receiving awards and recognition at local exhibitions. His work, which highlighted the dignity and resistance of the black people, was distinguished by escaping from the stereotypes of the time. In addition to painting, he also dedicated himself to music, with special interest in the guitar, and integrated various forms of artistic expression throughout his trajectory.

Criticism
"In 1940 he became interested in the painting of birds, in which he specialized and promoted himself, being recognized as the only painter of the time at that Gender (...) Being a self-assured artist, Andrade preferred the big canvases. The time required classic painting and was what the painter learned. His work did not undergo stylistic transformation, but a thematic change. His paintings are colorful and the technique adopted is that of pasting. All the painters of empaste clearly show the great sensitivity for the color. Andrade never liked to paint his imagination. He thought that imagination is the primary inducing factor of the abstractionist".
