Siron Franco (Goiás Velho GO 1947)
Siron Franco is a painter, sculptor, illustrator, draftsman, engraver and art director. On January 16, 1950, he moved to Goiânia, going to live in a lower middle class area, the popular neighborhood. It was exactly in this location where the disaster with Cesium-137 took place in 1987.
In 1959, the first known work of Siron. It is not known for sure when Siron began to have contact with the visual arts or when he began to show some interest in this direction. It is known, however, that, in Goiânia, middle-class people used to decorate the walls of their homes with bad and cheap reproductions of European masters - from the Renaissance to Impressionism. Possibly, these reproductions would have been the first contact that Siron had with the visual arts. In his parents' house there was, for example, a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's last supper. Configuring this fact as Siron's first contact with the visual arts, there is no way to specify the date he started painting. That year on a short journey from his parents, Siron painted the last supper on the wall of his house. Gouvea. As he lacked the time and the means to fund painting classes, he did not have a very unique involvement with this establishment. Perhaps he was there only as an observer. It was in this place that he found, in addition to the great help of the aforementioned painters, the painter Confaloni, the founder of the first School of Fine Arts in Goiânia and his first mentor. Between 1962 and 1966 without a fixed job and financial stability, Siron learned to master the technique of drawing and, in a no longer self-taught way, that of painting. His method was based on observation and experimentation. He began to remain as a portraitist, painting oil paintings, a technique that dominates, but rarely makes use of it.
He accepted orders as a graphic designer and even any work that came up.
In the year 1967, Siron painted the The governor of Goiás' wife. With this work, her reputation as a portraitist grew and expanded to Brasília, where she portrayed the figures of high society.
That year, Siron made his first individual exhibition of drawings at the Hotel Bandeirante. He submitted three drawings in India to the Judging Committee of the Second Bienal da Bahia.
A year later Siron exhibited the three works accepted at the Second Bienal da Bahia: Trojan Horse, End of All and Death to the Firstborn. On the opening night, the entire Biennial was closed by the military regime and two of his works were destroyed, surviving only the Trojan horse that received the acquisition award. paintings. At this stage, Siron began to paint sacred themes, especially Madonnas, which was a very salable and accepted merchandise in Latin countries. These incomes allowed Siron a certain financial freedom to develop his own work, which, at the time, still lacked definition and was unsaleable.
On March 23, 1970, moved to São Paulo.
He worked with Bernardo Cid and Walter Levy. He did, at that time, some works that he called "Age of Machines". He visits the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MASP).
Participates in a press conference integrating the group that would make the exhibition "Surrealism and Fantastic Art" at Galeria Seta de São Paulo, where he presented the works Eros e Tánatos.
In 1971, Siron He returns with his family to Goiania. He prepared thirty canvases he sent to the Yacht Club, in Rio de Janeiro, where he would make his first solo exhibition in that city.
In November 1972, he exhibited 42 works at the Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro. At that time, Siron's works had a great defender in Walmir Ayala, writer and art critic in the cultural section of Jornal do Brasil. In his article "The Technological Nightmare", he says: "Cybernetics, the technological dream, are the driving forces of the mature surrealism of Siron, who has in Bosch and in Flemish painting as between God and his creation, the similarity was being blurred by this powerful Artist from Goiás and Bosch found himself enlarged and sertaneously interpreted". Another key figure in his career emerges in this exhibition: the critic Jayme Maurício, who became Siron's first intellectual mentor.
Siron was invited to participate in the first Global Salon Primavera, in Brasília. He received the travel award, which consisted of a six-month stay in Mexico. It would be the first time I would leave Brazil.
A year later Siron returns to Brazil. His works are admitted in the 12th. National Biennial of São Paulo. Siron emerged victorious, among 145 competitors, winning the prize worth a thousand dollars, in addition to being the best painter of the year and the only Brazilian representative at the 13th. São Paulo International Biennial.
He participated in the 23rd. Modern Art Salon at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Rio de Janeiro, receiving the Jury Exemption Award.
It also participated in two collective exhibitions: that of Brazilian artists, held at the National Museum of Osaka, Japan and the American Chamber of Commerce of Rio de January.
He also performed alone at Galeria LBP in Goiânia and Petite Galerie in Rio de Janeiro.
Despite being well accepted by the press and being selling well, Siron continued to paint Madonnas and figures with the air of Madonnas. Perhaps because with the family always growing, the needs also grew.
In May 1975, he presented three works to be exhibited on the 24th. Rio de Janeiro Modern Art Salon, at the National Museum of Fine Arts: the queen, the mirror and the limit of the system. The painting The Queen earned him the travel prize, corresponding to a two-year stay in a foreign country of his choice and a monthly scholarship of five hundred dollars. On the occasion, this award was the highest honor to which he could aim for a Brazilian artist.

At the age of 28 Siron had already received the most important awards in the country.
In 1976 Siron left for Europe, having returned several times to Brazil to Fulfilling professional commitments.
In 1977 Siron participated in an itinerant exhibition entitled "Brazil and His Contemporary Art" that toured several Brazilian embassies in Europe.
In 1979, Siron was Invited to represent Brazil at the 15. Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, where the director of MASP, Mr. Bardi acquired the entire exhibition.
