Rui is one of the precursors of graffiti, a plastic artist who is now a professor at Senac Lapa Scipio and maintains the website www.artbr.com.br. Multimedia plastic artist, cultural activist, 48 years old, from São Paulo. His works have one of the biggest murals in the city of São Paulo today. Works with cartoon, painting, webart, facilities. He has already exhibited at the Pinacoteca do Estado, MAC, MIS, Funarte, Masp and Paço das Artes. Graduated by FAAP in Fine Arts, he was part of a time called Geração 80, considered one of the greatest exponents of Brazilian graffiti, which began to invade biennials, important museums and galleries. He formed one of the groups that most agitated the São Paulo artistic circuit, Tupynãodá, whose members were the first to graffiti in the daylight. He suffered police persecution, being arrested several times and criminally prosecuted by the São Paulo City Hall. Currently, his character created in graffiti has become the first “toy art” in Brazil made on vinyl. It has a multimedia producer, ArtBR, a pioneer in broadband content in the country, coordinates art and education projects aimed at valuing citizenship with needy communities. In Brazil, it started in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, west of the city of São Paulo. At that time, abroad, the galleries began to open their doors to new artists. Rui understands that a youth group was formed in Brazil. For him, a duck that excluded everything else. There was no space for me there, I resorted to this new art, which no one knew, I understood. Rui do Amaral: - I went to the street because I was more democratic and for giving more visibility to my work. One of the biggest contributions of graffiti is to make the city more beautiful, it is an art for everyone. Art transforms life, graffiti too. It is more vibrant, it makes the city pulse. It is a very powerful tool that few realize the power they have. Officialized in São Paulo through Law 13903/2004, Graffiti Day is a tribute to the artist Alex Vallauri, who died on March 27, 1987. And Rui was honored for having been one of the forerunners of artistic activity today so spread: the graffiti. I Biar - I International Biennial of Street Art of São Paulo The I International Biennial of Street Art, which will be held in São Paulo, - a city considered an international reference in publications and exhibitions specialized in the theme -, was born to promote a movement that has been developing every day - the art of street, or streetart. Under the coordination of Rui Amaral, a group of 8 artists, pioneers of street art in Brazil, form the curatorship that draws the I Biar, scheduled to take place at the end of 2010 and will present the different panorama of this demonstration in Brazil and in the world. A circuit of public interventions will be developed in the city, and on the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art, Ibirapuera) there will be a series of internal activities, such as exhibitions, records, video shows, debates and workshops. Urban environmental degradation is uncomfortable, public policies such as Cidade Limpa , play an important role in urban development and the 1st International Biennial of Street Art of São Paulo , becomes a great opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation in cities. The proposal aims to understand street art as a worldwide phenomenon. The historical record of interventions and the openness to dialogue and learning will place artists, government and the population in the same space, enabling reflection, learning and artistic appreciation, allowing the individual to participate in the formation of their history in a conscious and reflective way.
