Renée Lefevre (São Paulo SP 1910 - Idem 1996)
Renée Lefevre was an illustrator, painter and draftsman. He studied drawing with the painter Pedro Alexandrino and joined the São Paulo Artistic Family (FAP). He participated in several editions of the Salão Paulista de Belas Artes, between 1934 and 1940. In the 1940s, he served as secretary of the São Paulo Plastic Artists Union, attended the Académie Julian and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, in Paris, and was part of the 46th, 47th and 50th editions of the National Salon of Fine Arts – Modern Division. He exhibited at the 1st and 2nd editions of the São Paulo International Biennial, in 1951 and 1953. illustrations.
As an illustrator, he also participated in the publications São Paulo, its architecture: colony and empire, with texts by Carlos Lemos (1974); Maranhão: São Luiz and Alcântara, with texts by Odylo Costa Filho (1971); and Bahia, from enchantment to choro, with texts by Fernando Luiz da Fonseca (1977).
Criticism
"Renée Lefevre likes to paint and draw landscapes, small towns in the interior, squares, streets, churches, mansions. Sometimes it is seduced by regional scenes with human figures. Rarely paints still lifes. Consciously avoids panoramic compositions. In general, it is engaged in simple pictorial transpositions of fragments of the Brazilian reality, which today is Undoubtedly, these views of Ancient Brazil are subjected to a process of personal affection, a lyrical poetic validity, where the artist reveals the hidden seductions of resurrected forms of Baroque architecture, so Brazilian forms, so graceful, so Captivating, already so forgotten, although present and vivid (...) it will be difficult to classify its paintings, painted in a range of luminous, erased colors; these subtle, sensitized designs of airy calligraphy, within the recognized currents of the current painting. They seem to emerge from another time, as are also these parts of colonial Brazil, sources of their inspiration".
