Martins de Porangaba (Porangaba SP 1944)
Martins de Porangaba is a painter, draftsman, engraver and teacher. He took up residence in São Paulo, where he studied drawing, painting and living model at the Associação Paulista de Belas Artes, between 1967 and 1970. In the 1970s, he studied engraving with Paulo Mentem and modeling with Olinda Dalma, in addition to founding the Atelier J. Martins, in 1972. In 1980, he began to teach painting at the Panamerican School of Arts.
Criticism
"The fragmentary structure of Mário de Andrade's work finds a parallel in the free composition It is interspersed that Martins de Porangaba used in his series conventionally named, as a whole, Macunaíma. In it the planes are intertwined and houses, trees, moon, sun, birds, people, interior and exterior environments, fish, are arranged in a apparently random, but carefully organized from a compositional and plastic point of view. The images take on symbolic forms. With them Porangaba takes us to deep poetic states and rescues us the atmosphere of a childhood that seemed so distant. The dream did not end. (...) A global analysis of the work De Martins de Porangaba leads us to conclude, however, that he is not just a painter of human figures, animals, things, landscapes, Macunaíma, the circus. He is a painter of man's adventure on earth. People, animals, things, nature, dream, fantasy, are parts of this great adventure".
