Biography

Inos Corradin (1929 - 2025)

Inos Corradin was an artist who stood out as a painter, set designer, printmaker and draftsman. Born on November 14, 1929, in Vogna, Italy, he came into contact with art at a young age. He studied in Castelbaldo with the master Tardivello, where he refined his drawing and painting techniques. This early training gave him the foundation for a career marked by experimentation, a singular style and the chromatic richness of his works.

In 1950, Corradin moved to Brazil and settled in the city of Jundiaí, in the state of São Paulo. This move was decisive for his path, as the country would become the main stage of his career, without, however, preventing his intense international activity. In Brazil, he found room to grow as an artist, taking part in important movements and art salons of the time.

From 1952 on, he began to take part in highly relevant group exhibitions, such as the Salão Paulista de Arte Moderna and the Salão Nacional de Arte Moderna. His presence in these venues showed the strength of his work and the originality of his artistic vision. Between 1954 and 1955, Corradin devoted himself to set design, broadening his creative repertoire and exploring the relationship between painting and stage space.

Over time, he established himself as an artist able to move between different techniques and styles. He painted landscapes, figures and still lifes, always giving his compositions a playful, humorous and stylized character. His creative use of color and his lighthearted approach made each work a unique experience, at once sophisticated and accessible to the public.

Inos Corradin's career crossed borders and won international recognition. He held solo exhibitions in several countries, including Italy, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, the Netherlands and Canada. This intense circulation reinforced his importance on the art scene and established his name as a creator in dialogue with different cultures.

In the 1980s, his presence on the international circuit was even more remarkable. In 1986, he exhibited at Galeria Noelle, in Zurich, and at Galeria Supersaxo, in Martigny, both in Switzerland. In 1987, besides showing at Galeria de Arte André, he also exhibited at Galeria Munsterberg, in Brasília/Switzerland, reaffirming his ability to maintain an active presence in different artistic contexts.

Throughout his career, his production was marked by a constant search for new languages and by the ability to reinterpret reality with lightness and irony. This trait made his work a reflection of his creative personality, in which stylization and humor became tools for conveying visual messages of great impact.

Among his exhibitions, highlights include “Impressões: a arte da gravura brasileira” (Impressions: The Art of Brazilian Printmaking), held in 1998 at Espaço Cultural Banespa-Paulista, in São Paulo, as well as the exhibitions “4 Décadas” (4 Decades), in 2001, and “Paisagens do Imaginário” (Landscapes of the Imaginary), in 2002, both at Nova André Galeria. These later works confirmed the solidity of his path and the relevance of his contribution to the visual arts.

Each stage of his career revealed an artist who did not confine himself to patterns or trends. Corradin knew how to reinvent himself without losing his aesthetic identity. This coherence amid innovation was one of the elements that ensured his lasting place on the Brazilian and international art scene for decades.

Critique

A close look at a painting by Inos Corradin forces us, from the outset, to face the strangeness of the color, the refinement of the matter into which this indefinite color penetrates, the support of all colors, the crushed and cooked juice of the solar spectrum, throbbing and soft like a living organism. Ushered in by color, we oscillate between the picaresque play of stylization and the metaphysical space where forms are arranged like details of a fantastic toy. The human figure takes the form of jointed dolls, disguising in the salt of humor the folly and perplexity of contemporary man. The lyrical content of this painting advances in direct progression with the constructive research of the composition, in the geometrized filter through which forms are measured, transforming the visible into a kind of luminous equation. Taking on, moreover, yet another scenography and a disguise that recreates the playful tone of the Commedia dell'Arte, Inos Corradin integrates into this plastic diction the ex-voto, the landscape and the Brazilian people, leveling all references under the prism of a very personal language. There also coexists in him a humorous draftsman, perhaps committed to the special task of identifying the moment with an untroubled optimism.

Documentary

The documentary “Inos” portrays the life and work of the Italian painter Inos Corradin. The film shows the artist's entire saga, from his childhood in Castelbaldo, Italy, to his time in Bahia, São Paulo and, finally, Jundiaí, where he carries out his work to this day. With striking testimonies from various personalities in the art world, such as the painter Gustavo Rosa, the renowned art critic Jacob Klintowitz and the international art dealer Carla Surian, all the fantastic stories of this citizen of the world are told by those who actually lived them. The memorable journeys, the unusual contact with Jânio Quadros, his unpretentious manner and his rich legacy unfold in an informative and playful way over about 50 minutes of a pure journey through the art world. “Inos” is an essential piece, not only for art lovers, but for all lovers of life.
