Antonio Rocco (Amalfi, Italy 1880 - São Paulo SP 1944)
Pintor and teacher.
Studies painting with Domenico Morelli (1826 - 1901) e Filippo Palizzi (1818 - 1899), at the Instituto de Belas Artes de Naples, between 1899 and 1905, when he presented the miners' screens. He participated in the Bienal de Turin, in 1908. He came to Brazil, in 1913, and settled in São Paulo. The following year, he received in his studio the visit of Nestor Pestana, director of the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo, who dedicates a complimentary article to the edition of July 2, 1914. He makes his first solo in the city, in the Salão do Palacete do Conde Prates in 1918, year in which the emigrants, PINACCOTECA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - PESP Acquires the screen The emigrants, ca.1910 of its authorship. Also in 1918, he founded the Novíssima School, with Nicolo Petrilli and A. Sironi, with courses aimed at vocational education and female public education, and prepares the cover of the magazine a Cigarra for the commemorative edition of its first birthday. In 1919, he spends six months at the farm of businessman Oscar Souza Pinto, in São Carlos do Pinhal, where he paints landscapes, animals and everyday scenes. Participates in several editions of the General Exhibition of Fine Arts, in Rio de Janeiro, and of the São Paulo Fine Arts Salon. He is part of the collective exhibition Grupo Almeida Júnior, organized by Torquato Bassi (1880 - 1967), at Palácio das Arcadas, in São Paulo, in 1928. At the invitation of the Italian Vice Consul of São Paulo, he is part of the 2nd Provincial Exhibition of Salerno, Italy. He is a professor of several artists from São Paulo, among them colette Pujol (1913 - 1999) e Bernardino de Sousa Pereira (1895 - 1985).
