Guido Pelegrino Viaro (Province of Rovigo, Veneto Italy 1897 - Curitiba PR 1971)
Pinter, illustrator, caricaturist, designer, sculptor, engraver, teacher and columnist.
He attends a painting course in Badia Polesine, Italy, in 1907, at the same time he is carrying out his primary studies. He enlists in the Italian Navy in the First World War (1914 - 1918), interrupting his studies. Between 1921 and 1927, he traveled through several European countries, and in Italy he even studied painting in Venice and at the Rossi de Bologna school. He comes to Brazil in 1927. He remains in São Paulo for some time, where, in addition to working as an illustrator and caricaturist in newspapers, he makes panels and frescoes for commercial houses and residences. In 1929, he went to Paraná, he took up residence in Curitiba, and met Professor Theodoro de Bona (1904 - 1990) and the painter Alfred Andersen (1860 - 1935). He works, alongside Poty (1924 - 1998), in the illustration of the magazine Joaquim, in 1946. He works in art institutions such as the studio/school of drawing and painting Guido Viaro and the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná, in Curitiba. The Guido Viaro Museum was inaugurated, in the capital of Paraná, in 1975. In 1996, the video impressions by Guido Viaro was released, made by Carlos Henrique Tulio. The following year, the Guido Viaro 100 Anos Exhibition takes place, which brings together the work of artists from Paraná in honor of the centenary of their birth.
Critical Comment
Guido Viaro begins to draw and paint in Italy, but Brazil that develops most of its production. It is considered a renewer of modern painting in Paraná. His works reveal an affinity with expressionism, mainly for the drama and poetic tone with which he portrays the human figure. The artist stands out for his extensive graphic production. Among its most constant themes, there are popular types in everyday activities, with a strong documentary meaning, such as in washerwomen (1960) or in the series of strong waters in which it focuses on fairs, gypsy camps, card games and parties, among others. subjects.
The artist is also dedicated to carrying out works of religious themes, both in engraving and painting. Some of these canvas resemble Renaissance frescoes, being marked by the strong presence of the drawing. He also performs several portraits, such as that of the painter Miguel Bakun (1909 - 1963). In parallel with his artistic production, he is concerned with art and education. He creates an arts school for children, a pioneer in Brazil and, during his long teaching career, forms new generations of artists in Paraná.
Criticism
"Viaro focused, throughout his work, with his also expressive design and figurative style, A social theme that sought the appreciation of the human being. This is what made it disparately from the components of the 'family' (Paulista Artistic Family), bringing it closer to Clóvis Graciano, (...) Regionalism, the interpretation of the environment itself, giving its work a social approach. It had a very expressive design and was always figurative".
