Efe Godoy (Minas Gerais, Brazil - 1988)
Efe Godoy was born in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, in 1988. He lives and works in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. She is a visual artist and develops her research in different languages, including video, object, drawing, painting and performance. The production of Efe Godoy researches hybridity, with an emphasis on childhood memories clippings and spontaneous fabulations.
Efe Godoy passed through the Guignard School of the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG), and continued his training for through artistic residencies in Brazil and abroad. Among these experiences are the Pampulha Bolsa, in Belo Horizonte, in the years 2015 and 2016; the artistic residency at the EAC, in Montevideo, in 2018; the Adelina residence, in São Paulo, also in 2018; and the Hemiencuentro, from the Hemispheric Institute of New York University, held in Mexico City in 2019.
In 2015, Efe Godoy held for now birds, his solo exhibition at BDMG Cultural, in Belo Horizonte. The show presented drawings related to the presence of birds and human figures.
In 2016, Efe Godoy presented as if I were there, at the Aliança Français de Belo Horizonte. The exhibition was developed from the tragedy caused by the rupture of the Fundão dam, in Mariana, and brought together works made from photographs shared on social networks, with interventions of drawings and collages.
In the same period, Efe Godoy participated in the scholarship. Pampulha and developed works that included performance. Among them is Homem-Capivara, presented in the context of the program.
In 2016, Efe Godoy also presented at the same time that plants and all things grow, at the Minas Gerais Vale Memorial, in Belo Horizonte, as part of the public notice, young artists from Minas Gerais. The exhibition brought together 200 illustrations related to the relationships between man and nature and also featured performances and meetings with the public.
In 2019, Efe Godoy held the exhibition Strange Familiar, at Galeria Celma Albuquerque, in Belo Horizonte. The exhibition presented works related to hybridity, with figures in which animals, plants, humans and objects appear combined. In the same year, he participated in the exhibition Verbo de Performance Arte, at Galeria Vermelho, in São Paulo.
Efe Godoy's research on hybridity remained present in his production. Among the works recorded by Albuquerque Contemporânea are the series Ser Flor, Ser Semo Hybrid, in a state of courtship with the indefinition, from 2020, carried out in drawing on paper, and the series A soft and rough feeling, scratches and creates cone, of 2021, held in drawing and watercolor on paper.
In 2020, Efe Godoy received the SARP Award, from the Ribeirão Preto Art Salon. In 2021, he received the Mabri Award for Small Formats. In 2022, she was nominated for the PIPA Award.
In 2022, Efe Godoy developed the series to dream of transformation images, performed in watercolor on cotton paper. The following year, his production also started to present oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and paintings made on photographs found.
In 2023, Efe Godoy presented telepathic conversations about preferred subjects, in Albuquerque Contemporânea, in Belo horizon. According to the text of the exhibition, although drawing, watercolor and painting were already present in his production, it was in this exhibition that painting became the central axis of his work. The exhibition addressed themes such as symbols of nature, sexuality, memory and hybridism, presenting hybrid beings that combine plants, animals and human beings.
In 2024, Efe Godoy held an artistic residency by the Sam Art Project in Paris. In the same year, Albuquerque Contemporânea presented in Zonamaco, Mexico, the Solo Bicho project, plant, spell, formed by a series of 90 designs of hybrid beings.
Among the most recent works by Efe Godoy are Watercolors and photographs mined and torn on paper, as well as paintings in oil and acrylic on canvas. The production of 2024 and 2025 recorded by Albuquerque Contemporânea includes works such as every time I forget to say something, a new thought springs up that can be forgotten again! Orquídea Flor, inside and outside that it was freedom and love.
In 2025, Efe Godoy participated in a collective exhibition at the Brazil Pavilion of Expo Osaka, Japan, and presented an individual exhibition at the Contemporary Art project, at the Museum of Contemporary Art From the Pampulha Art Museum, in Belo Horizonte.
In 2026, Efe Godoy presented reforestation: when I allow it to flourish, at the Piccola Galleria da Casa Fiat de Cultura, in Belo Horizonte. The exhibition took place from June 2 to July 19 and brought together paintings produced from old photographs, with watercolor, flowers, leaves, roots and invented species. The show also featured an artistic intervention created by the artist on the walls of the gallery.
Efe Godoy's research is also related to the idea of interfering in people's lives through the reverberation of affection. The artist uses social networks as a space for interaction, bringing intimate spaces closer to life and art.
