Win Van Dijk (Westmass, Netherlands 1915 - Petrópolis RJ 1990)
Painter and designer.
Willem Leendert van Dijk studied art and Theology in Leiden (Holland), at the Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Leiden. In 1935, he won a trip abroad, getting to know France, Italy and Greece. With the Second World War, he enlists in the resistance to the Nazis, losing both legs on the front. In 1947, appointed 1st Cultural Attaché by Queen Guilhermina, travels to Brazil, taking up residence in Rio de Janeiro. In 1948, his biography l'homme, le peintre, l'oeuvre, by Carlos Torres Pastorino was released. In 1960, he published the Book of Poems Invitation to the Exhibition. In 1971, he was appointed member of the Metropolitan Academy of Letters. In 1947, he held his first solo exhibition at the Brazilian Press Association, in Rio de Janeiro. In 1951, he won a gold medal at the National Artists Hall and, in 1952, he won a silver medal at the Brazilian Artists' Hall. He holds exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Holland, France, Denmark, Argentina and Japan. In 1966, the Harwick Collection (United States) acquired the Tela Jangadeiros in Action for its collection. In 1968, the governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Geremias Fontes, offers President Costa e Silva the painting Rio Piabanha - Petrópolis and the Tela Petrópolis in Flor to Queen Elisabeth II, on an official visit to Brazil. In 1971, he became a member of the Petropolitan Academy of Letters.
