Darcy Penteado (São Roque SP 1926 - Idem 1987)
Darcy Penteado was a painter, illustrator, draftsman, set designer, costume designer, designer, engraver and short story writer. In 1948, he joined the Novíssimos group, in São Paulo. The following year, he held his first solo exhibition, also in the capital of São Paulo. In the 1950s, he won the first prize in the contest for the poster of the 1st Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, received the gold record in the category of best album cover designer and accumulated several awards as a costume designer: he was elected the best costume designer Brazilian from the 2nd Theater Plastic Arts Exhibition, at the São Paulo International Biennial, in addition to receiving the State Governor Award, the Saci Award from the São Paulo Association of Theater Critics and other awards for the costumes created for the play Pedreira das Almas.
In 1962, he was recognized as Best Illustrator of the Year by the Brazilian Book Chamber, by the illustrations in the book Cantos da Cabra Cega, by Marcel Aymé. He also illustrated the books O País do Carnaval, by Jorge Amado, and Infância, by Graciliano Ramos. As a short-story writer, he received an honorable mention from Status magazine in 1977.
