Caciporé Torres (Araçatuba SP 1935)
Caciporé Torres is a sculptor, draftsman and teacher. He traveled to Europe with a scholarship received at the 1st International Biennial of São Paulo, in 1951, and for two years he attended the sculpture workshops of Marino Marini (1901–1980) and Alexander Calder (1898–1976). He returned to Brazil in 1953, participated in exhibitions and later returned to Europe. In 1954, he studied Art History at the Sorbonne, in Paris, and worked in a studio for four years, a period in which he developed an abstractionist work. He began to build massive organic and geometric shapes, using industrial-looking metallic pieces, such as steel, bronze and iron. Many of his sculptures were carried out in large dimensions and are part of museums and public spaces in different cities, such as the works in Praça da Sé, in the Santa Cecília Metro, and a sculptural panel in Miami, United States.
Between 1961 and 1971, taught sculpture at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP) and, from 1971, at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, both in São Paulo. In 1970, he was elected president of the International Association of Visual Arts/UNESCO and, in 1980 and 1982, recognized as the best Brazilian sculptor by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA). He received the Mário de Andrade Commendation of the Government of the State of São Paulo, during the administration of Paulo Egydio Martins.
Criticism
"Caciporé Torres, who in the 1950s studied in Europe (in Paris, above all), It reached maturity by defining itself by massive non-representative and expressionist constructions. It took advantage of the cast iron and, considering sculpture as a public thing, it began to elaborate it in large volumes articulated by the weld, using the Stainless steel in the state of scrap. The cylindrical form has been a basic element in this sculptor of the metal, of a 'brutalist' conception, that his art has a social destination, an objective that is scarcely observed in our midst. Example of the participation of sculptors in the difficult spatiality of the new Praça da Sé, in São Paulo, there was often a lack of better adaptation between works and the environment".

"(...) Caciporé Torres (Araçatuba, São Paulo, 1932) is one of the sculptors of the monument. The attention of our tired eyes and bombarded by incessant images. And yet everything acquires life and meaning, and steel, the wires, the iron, sometimes, the bronze forms a set of revealing signs. Language of our time. hardness, rigors and roughness. And this is so unexpected, of sudden sweetness, reference to the human condition, memories of the human animal, of the fragility and perpetuity of everything. eruptions, colors, fierce masses and, at the center of this larval material in our society, the memory of the torso, the legs, the genitals. Phidias to the Greek body, highlight a fimbria. He reminds us that the dream has a double face, Janus. And the integral manifesto of the era includes the tortured face of the moon, the bowels of the incandescent metal, and the infantile step of man disconnected from gravity. Caciporé Torres dedicated himself to marking this moment of eruption. We don't know if it is the volcano or the lava, the eruption or pompeii. It is likely that it is everything and, at this very moment, is a spectator of himself and of us all.
